Welcome & Welcome Back, Leaders!

My name is Gloria Cadet and I am the Writing and Multimedia Intern at the Center for Leadership and this is The LEAD, a blog dedicated to highlighting all things leadership on Elon campus! If you’re reading this that means one of two things: 1) you’re an Elon student, faculty or staff and 2) you’re ready to become a full-fledged leader. If that’s the case then you’re in the right place! The LEAD is designed to keep you up-to-date on the latest leadership trends whether that involves community service, campus engagement and project development. The Elon community and the leadership community so if you want to share your leadership experiences with others or help establish a new form of leadership then open up the conversation! Submit a story or kick off a forum.

The Center for Leadership wasn’t just getting spruced up, a bunch of events and forums were opened up during the summer. AYLA which stands for the Alamance Youth Leadership Academy had a great turn out over the summer. Elon leaders come together for a three day AYLA summer institute. We introduced and exercised some new leadership skills including: confidence, effective communication, and problem solving. We had groups of excited students from nine different middle schools show up everyday ready to chat and put what they learned into action. They started this by planning a school change project to start working on when they return to school in the fall.

It’s been awhile since we’ve been on campus and although we’ve taken a pause from the academic scene that doesn’t mean the Center for Leadership has! The Center itself has underwent extreme renovations! The new Center for Leadership houses cozy quarters, a wall-mounted tv, and a bunch of other amenities for you to enjoy. So for all of you veteran leaders, you’ll remember how the little hole in the wall the Center was and because of it you’ll appreciate the brand new space, allowing for more engagement and more fun, so don’t be afraid to stop by and say hi to all members of the CFL!
